a redesign that changed how the portal reads without changing what it says.
an internal portal the company's team works in to manage customers. its screens were crowded, and different groups of information ran into each other.
nothing on the backend could change, and every piece of existing content had to stay. the portal also runs on a commercial component suite, and the areas it wouldn't let me touch stayed as they were. so the redesign works with grouping and whitespace alone: related fields sit together, and space separates the groups.
in the form, fields sit under titled sections, each with one line saying what it holds. in the list, tools, records and navigation are separated from each other. the videos on this page play the old screen first, then the new one.
organizing dense customer information into readable groups.
the demonstration starts with the previous design, followed by the screen i redesigned. the comparison shows tools, records, and navigation in the list screen.
